Lauryn Davis Awarded the Dr. Martin D. Jenkins Award
Granville County Public Schools is proud to announce that Lauryn Davis, a senior at Granville Early College High School, has been awarded the prestigious Dr. Martin D. Jenkins Award at the National Gifted Conference. Lauryn is one of only seven students in the entire nation to receive this distinguished honor. She was formally recognized during the awards ceremony on November 15, 2025, in Pittsburgh, PA.
This prestigious award, named after Dr. Martin D. Jenkins—widely regarded as the father of research on gifted Black students—is presented to exceptionally gifted Black scholars who excel academically and demonstrate outstanding leadership. As a recipient, Lauryn will receive a $300 scholarship, complimentary registration to the National Association for Gifted Children Annual Convention, a full scholarship to attend Purdue University’s (GER²I) Summer Residential Program, and valuable mentoring opportunities.
From her selection into the NC Governor’s School to this prestigious national award, Lauryn is a true example of excellence in all she does. Her principal, Dr. Gwen Roulhac, shared, “Lauryn is gifted not only in her intellect but in her character, her compassion, and her commitment to making a difference. I am so proud of her!” Granville County Public Schools celebrates Lauryn’s dedication, excellence, and commitment to both her academics and her community.
